We got a call that MooMoo had been in extended labor and a puppy was stuck in her vagina. Her owners had no money and could not take her to the vet. We rushed her to the vet where she went under anesthesia with a 50/50 chance of survival. The vet believes Moo was in labor for days (not just hours as we originally believed); her body was septic. This is not her first litter…she was bred before. She deserves so much better than this. She deserves a life of love and spoiling.
The puppies are dead; one blocked the rest from being born, they all died inside her resulting in massive infection.
Moo survived the surgery and was sitting up and loving the attention. The first 2-3 days were the most critical. She stayed overnight at the vet and was constantly monitored.
Thankfully she was strong! Moo is much better today. She is back at the shelter. She is eating a little bit and is resting comfortably. We still have to monitor her closely to make sure she is urinating enough and drinking/eating enough to flush out the infection.
Moo’s care was covered by Joe’s Fund which has taken a huge hit lately covering several expensive medical needs for animals here at the Hillside. If you would like to be a guardian angel to Moo, a gift to Joe’s Fund would help tremendously. You can DONATE safely and easily online by choosing Joe’s Fund when giving.
