From Fear to Cheers

Punky Brewster is a little handsome fellow who was previously matted, shaved, and in need of a lot of medical care. Well, fortunately thanks to the Hillside SPCA and Joe’s Fund, he now has everything taken care of! He experienced what you could call an “Extreme Makeover: Doggie Edition.” We noticed Punky had major issues with his hind end (not to be too graphic – a huge bloody mass on his anus) and he needed serious help. The vet told us he needed bloodwork and a biopsy of a mass in his anal area. Fortunately last weekend we got the call that his bloodwork came back good and the biopsy was also clear! The mass that was suspected to be cancer, was not, it was benign, so we proceeded with surgery. He had what they call perianal adenoma. He may or may not be fecally incontinent from removing the mass but without the surgery the mass would have only grown larger, making it impossible for little Punky to defecate. Since Punky has so much Spunk in him, we decided he deserved this chance. The alternatives would be letting the mass grow and bleed or euthanasia and those were not options for us.  Punky was neutered and he had a dental, which was very much needed!! Now, Punky needs a loving and understanding home. We are sure the right one is out there for our little man. If you would like to continue to help us help dogs like Punky, please consider a donation to Joe’s Fund.  Punky says, “thanks for taking a chance on me!”
