On 12-23-04 we adopted a beautiful Golden-Lab mix named Sydney. She has adapted to our home wonderfully - It's as though she's always been with us! She is such a great dog, and we love her dearly. We would reccommend the Hillside SPCA to anyone looking for a new pet, and our Syd is a ringing endorsement for the excellent animals you have available. Thanks so much!

I want to thank the person who adopted Bandit and Daisy. I seen their pictures everytime I go on the site and wish I could take them home with me, but I don't have enough room for two. God bless you and everyone who adopts these wonderful animals.

We decided if we ever got another dog it would be either a Greyhound for me or a Lab puppy for my husband. When our beautiful chocolate Lab died, we called Hillside. Janine was wonderful and said they had a year old black Lab that needed a home. Even though Paris didn't fit our 'wants', she jumped into the big hole in our hearts to fill our 'needs'. She slept with us the first night. Princess Paris, as we now call her, is housebroken, loving and filled the void in our lives. She gets along with our 4 Parrots just fine and didn't even make a fuss when she met our ferret. She keeps my husband company all day while he's working, and comes to me at night for equal love time.
If Dan has an errand to run, Paris and Giny (our 8 year old Golden Lab) curl up on the bed and sleep until he gets back home. Although neither of us have ever gotten a dog so soon after the death of a beloved pet, Princess Paris now has a forever home ! Thanks for being so different from the other shelters that euthanize much too soon.

This coming May it will be 8 years ago that I adopted a little black kitten that I named BlackJack from Hillside. He came home with me in a big blue carrier because I was moving to Lock Haven from Pottsville. The good people at the SPCA must have known that my cat was going to be doing some traveling too, because he has lived in 3 states and now makes the yearly trek from Georgia to PA at Christmas to see his Grandma. This Christmas I bought him a new soft side carrier and his old carrier still being in good condition I took it back to Hillside. BlackJack was a little upset to see that carrier go out the door without him in it but he adjusted to the new one just fine. My thanks to Hillside for all you do and for my BlackJack.

It has been about 9 months since I adopted "Alue" the terrified little mini schaunzer and almost a month since Alue picked "Kiwi" (Formerly Emily) as a Christmas present. Kiwi is trying to teach Alue how to be a dog, and Alue is trying to teach Kiwi to be polite to big dogs. They are both doing wonderfully, and I am so glad the people at Hillside let me add them to my home!

On October 7,2003 my family and I adopted a handsome 7 week old German shepard puppy who we named Benji. We all loved Benji, and he quickly became a part of our family; he would always be there for me whenever I was feeling down. Unfortunately on January 8, 2005 we had to give our baby away because my sister is heading off to college, and it would be too much work to get everything settled down. Having just called the SPCA, our family learned that Benji had already been adopted by another family after only 2 days. Its not a surprise really because hes such an amazing and beautiful dog. Its a shame though, because since we live in New Jersey, theres not really going to be a chance to see him again. I just want to contact the new owners of our shepard/lab mix to see if we can exchange pictures and stories, he was so close to us thats its hard to know that hes not here with us anymore. If you know anything about Benji please email me.

We adopted Bear this August. What a little lover he is! He gets along with the other 4 dogs like he has been here all along. He also loves my cats. He is sweet and gentle with my 19 month old as well. My husband and I said that if we wrote down what the perfect dog would be it would be Bear. His hair is now thick, black and shiny. Everyone who meets him falls in love with him. In case you havent noticed he is one of my favorites. He is my little boyfriend who follows me around the house and growls if one of the others gets too rowdy. We all love him so much. Thank you for saving him until we could bring him home.

Well, this is my third time bringing good news. My boyfriend and I adopted two more kittens back in Sept. All his idea!! We now have six. Would have more if we had a bigger place. We adopted Candy and Kelly, nka Carly and Bella respectively. If fact, Bella is trying to help me type this. They have brought us such great joy, as our other ones have. We almost lost Bella to pneumonia just a few weeks after we got her. Thank God for the wonderful vet that I found after my original vet brushed me off when I called concerned about her condition. If it wasn't for him, she probably wouldn't be here right now. So after many tears and about $600 to make her better, she is doing great!! She was worth every penny. I didn't care how much it would have cost to save her life, I would have paid it. Some people may think that $600 was too much for "just" a kitten, but not me. They are like children. If you can't afford them, then don't have them. She was a big hit at the vets...they loved her. I call her my little demon. She is into everything now...climbing curtains, getting into the cabinets, jumping on the counters, sticking her face in my Diet Pepsi!! But you know what, I could care less. As long as she is healthy she can do whatever she wants. I think I may have spoiled her too much..like I do with all my girls. Nothing is too good for my babies. As usual Helen and the staff there was great when we adopted them. I could never come close to repaying them for the wonderful cats they have allowed us to adopt. I just wish we could adopt more. Helen, you are the best. The girls say HI and miss ya. Thank God for people like you and the rest of the staff there at Hillside!!!

We adopted Spot from the shelter just a few days ago. Spot has been a wonderful addition to our family. It didn't take him long to adjust to his new home and surroundings. He acts like he has lived here his whole life. We are so pleased with your shelter and giving him a chance to be adopted. We would recommend your facility to anyone looking for a new pet.

Thanks to one of your volunteers six months ago, Missy, now known as Sami came into our lives. It was a rough couple of months, first she hid for a week, then an upper respiratory infection, and just when we thought things were going well, then came the diagnosis of herpes in her left eye and several weeks of treatment (drops 4-6 times a day). But now she is the sweetest and most spoiled member of our family. I know not many people would go the extra mile for a cat, but she was worth all the worry and sleepless nights! And now at a very healthy 9.5 lbs, I think Sami would say so also!! She thanks everyone who was willing to give her a chance.

We rescued our dog Chestnut 10 years ago from the S.P.C.A! She is a beagle-mix (mutt) and the best dog ever! She is a very shy dog, from being abused from her formal masters, and afraid of many little things......the fly swater........when she gets into the trash cans........... she wimpers, thinking we will hurt her, but we never even considered doing anything to her! she's perfect!!!!!!! :0) I am 13 years old and grew up with her all my life, my life would not be the same with out her! I dont know what I would do with out her, my life would not as enjoyable. She is so spoiled to, this christmas she had 3 christmas presents and a card under the tree! She is spoiled! I love her with all my heart! Thanks hillside S.P.C.A. for puting such a great boost to my life!

A year ago I adopted Zoe, a swiss mountain lab mix from the shelter and I could not be more happy with her. She is a wonderful and loving dog, Zoe and our three-legged beagle Gracie are inseperable. Everyone who meets Zoe thinks we have had her since she was a puppy and are very suprised when they hear we've only had her a year. To this day I can't imagine why her other owner gave her up, but everything worked out for the best, I have a wonderful dog, and Zoe is very spoiled and has a great permanent home.

Just a note to give everyone an update on Trooper, the dog formerly known as "Gypsy". She is getting along just fine. She developed an ear infection that was noticed by her groomers at Paw Prints. Dr. Truesdale got her in to examine her that afternoon and cleaned out the infection and gave her eardrops. Trooper was very good in allowing me to administer the drops. She didn't fight me at all. She seem to sense that they were good to help her feel better. It has been a week now, and her ears are all pink and rosy. She finished her Christmas shopping, as she needed to get her "cousins" presents sent. She got personalized collars for my parents beagle, and my son's golden retriever. Both were thrilled. That's about it from Trooper. Have a wonderful Christmas and a terrific New Year.

My family and I have adopted all of our animals from Hillside, and we have never been disapointed. This past time is no exception. We adopted Fluffy a short time ago. She was a severely abused and matted Chow mix. Starved to the point of skin and bones. She was 15 yrs old, and a complete sweetheart. We took her home, made an appointment with the vet and the groomer. She has taken her place in the family with the other dogs very seriously. Older animals have so much love and life to give. Thank you for our newest member of the family.

Thank you for letting us take home the last boxer mix puppy on 11/19. We named her Lucy and she is adjusting well. The boys LOVE her and she adores them. She is great with the housetraining. She barks to go out and go to the bathroom. Our older dogs are taking their time getting to know her but it is getting better today.

Me and my family adopted Sparkles several months ago and would like Helen to know that she is doing very well. While she still will not let us pick her up and cuddle, she has fit in very well with our other cats and also our dogs. I'm so glad she has found her forever home! If you are thinking of adopting, please go to Hillside. There are so many dogs and cats waiting for their forever homes.

Hello from the Andersens
We adopted "Annie" yesterday from your incredible facility. I say incredible because my wife and I have visited animal shelters before, but none as well run and friendly as yours. We were really impressed that some of the dogs could run in a large fenced in area to really strech their legs out in the fresh air! Annie after greeting the visitors took up her tradional residence sunning herself on top of a doghouse!!!! We also had an opportunity to see the cattery, as Annie had to be "cat safe" for her new cat brother Nicky. Luckly she passed the crucial test and we saw what a wonderful set-up you had to take care of your cats!!(people must come and see it for themselves to believe it!!!) Annie is adapting to our house wonderfully! How could anyone leave her behind?????????? Keep up the good work and we will let more people from Lancaster know about your 1st class facility!!!!!
Love Tom, Barb, Barbara and Mark

Wow... my first update is way back on the first page of the Guest Book Archives... time flies! Our family has moved again... hopefully to our "forever home"! Of course, a move means new yard, new vet, and a few settling-in issues! But it's all worth it! We still have beagle mix Marzipan and her "aunt," 14-yr-old mutt, Taffy! They are both doing well... loving long walks in the city and frequent car trips! Thanks Hillside for another successful adoption!

I was reading the newspaper the other day, and I saw a story that distressed me, I can not believe that Ruth Steiner receives that amount of money. If you take in all the animal cruelty cases, all the abuse cases, and don't get nothing for it, I think that is lousy. Why isn't the monies from the dog licenses at least split between the two SPCA.s?? Is there someone I can write to to help you guys get the funding you DESERVE???
