Hello! I just wanted to say thank you for the chance to adopt GIGI on June 27,2004. She has changed our life for the better. My son adores her. We changed her name to Tonya and she responds to it wonderfully. My son looks forward to playing in the yard with her everyday. We will try to bring her out to visit you sometime. Thanks again. Another success story!! I wrote back a few months ago, about the adoption of Sophia..nka...Sophie, and how wonderful Helen was with the adoption and all. Since then I have been volunteering there once a month, trying to up it some. Anyone and all who is reading this, please, if you have the time, come down and help out. Though I'm sweaty and hairy (from holding all the cats) when I leave, I feel great! Knowing that I helped make a difference in those precious animals lives, makes it all worth while. Sophie is doing great by the way. And she loves to hang out on top of the radiator in the kitchen, which is under the kitchen window. She can see all the birds, rabbits and squirrels that go by. About a month or so ago, got a call from Helen (the sly devil that she is) telling me that she just got this one cat in and that she wasn't doing too good. She asked if it would be possible if I could take her in. To make a long story short, I now have 4 cats in my life!! Birdie, nka Cassey was very shy and timid at first and hid under our spare bed. I just let her go, figuring she will come out when she wants to. Now, she is hanging out in the attic with the other ones, except Sophie. (Gracie won't let her upstairs :)!!) She comes down and hangs out with me and my boyfriend. Now she is sleeping on top of the bed vice under it. She is even my alarm clock some mornings. She has progressed so much!! She is so lovable and has the sweetest temperament. Though she has her claws and the other ones don't, she has not once use them against them, even though they have pounced on her a few times. Helen, you definitely picked a wonderful one for us. As I said about Sophie Helen, Cassey will never go hungry, will always have a warm place to sleep, and will be loved till the end of time. I will be back to help out. The girls say HI!!! Though they miss you, they say that they love their new home!! Take care and God Bless you all that care for these precious animals.

I would like to thank the Hillside spca staff for helping me to figure out how old my beloved ziggy is she is 8 years old. She likes to play with me as soon as she is done in my back yard. I go to let her in the backdoor and as soon as I put my foot down on the cement stoop in my backyard she races to the other side of the yard. She likes to play tag with me or my daughter.

I want to say Thank You to everyone who works at Hillside. You all have a tough job, which is a heartbreaking job. I had referred my friends to your shelter (her cat was dying from kidney failure so they put him to sleep). Her sister wanted to rescue another cat. I referred them to you.My friend ended up adopting 3 cats (one of them Andy) and a kitten. They are very pleased w/their new cats and kitten. The cats and kitten are doing fine.I went to your shelter once before (to drop off Dogs Deserve Better flyers, brochures) and everyone was soo nice and it shows that you care about the animals in your care. Although I wanted to take some of those dogs home, I couldn't as I have 3 already. I did cry on the way home. I saw them looking at me w/those puppy eyes and hoping that someone will open their heart and home to these loving animals.I wish there were more that I can do to help.Good Luck w/all the animals you save, and most and importantly of all THANK YOU FOR CARING :)!!! and giving these animals another chance at life.

hello, I adopted my cat krissy in 1991 she was 5 at the time. I still have here and love her to death , my fiance and I got a birthday cake in honor of her 18th b-day on july 18th. krissy lived with my parents and me. In 2001 my both parents died. krissy seemed very lonely, so I decided a few months later to adopt another cat. I spent hours deciding which one to take home with me at the shelter.( believe me if I had the room I'd take them all !!) I went with a male cat named max.he just turned 4. like they say a dog is a mans best friend, well max being a cat acts the same way. where ever my fiance or I am in the house he follows. kissy and him get along so well, I think that's what keeps krissy going . some day we may be looking for a dog. well thanks alot and keep up the good work. Bill

I just want everyone to know how much a senior animal has to offer. We adopted Ronald 4 years ago when he was 5 years old. He's 9 now and he has brought so much to our family. He has the sweetest personality, and I wouldn't be without him by my bedside. Please don't think older animals have nothing to give.

You sound like a wonderful organization. I suggest that you seach out grant money for funding your shelter. A lot of shelters do that and are able to stay afloat. Good Luck to you.

My boyfriend Jeff and I just want to thank everyone at Hillside for bringing "Star" and "Stella" into our lives. The are the 2 sweetest kitties in the world! My boyfriend surprised me with them in March (they were 3 months old and SOOOO tiny!) Star is his , and Stella is mine. We love them SO much. They are our "babies". Thank you Hillside for caring for and taking in all of these animals and giving them a loving home!!

Thank you very much for helping my niece find the dog of her dreams. She adopted "Rummey" on Sunday afternoon, brought him back to my house, and they didn't leave each others' side for the rest of their visit from Maryland (Laura even slept next to Rummey's cage that night). Rummey loved his 3 baths and multiple brushings and still faithfully followed Laura (his new mommy)everywhere. I also haven't seen Laura that happy in years!!! Rummey's tail came up from between his legs during the late afternoon, and was to a full wag after dinner! He is a great dog, and we thank you so much for such a positive experience.

I would like to thank everyone at Hillside for helping me find the perfect family dog. Puddles has been in our family now for a month and she is the best dog anyone could have. I would also like to thank the staff for all their help in picking Puddles. Keep up the good work!

Hi guys. I am so sad to see so many pets given away due to allergies. I don't know how many people who give up pets read this, but there IS an alternative to giving away your pet! We have 2 dogs (thanks Hillside for such WONDERFUL boys!) and 2 cats. My daughter and I both have allergies to our pets (myself to the cats, daughter to all furry animals). Mild to moderate allergies are well controlled by washing pets monthly (or more if you can and the animal is not bothered by it), regular grooming and the application of AllerPet once or twice a month. Brush the pet outside (I strongly suggest a shedding blade), use a gentle pet shampoo and wash all the towels in hot water when you are done. Wash your hands often. Vaccume your floors every other day. Our allergist (who is himself allergic to his dog) suggested these simple solutions. Of course, allergies can be controlled with medication also. However, if you are just useing "allergies" as an excuse there is no solution.
Thanks everyone for your wonderful work.

I have been a volunteer at the Hillside for a few months now. I work full time during the week, so I look forward to spending my weekends here walking and playing with the dogs. I have grown so attached to the them in such a short time.

I would like to take my turn to say "thanks" to all of the wonderful people out there who support what we do here, for showing me that I am not alone in my quest to make the world a better place for animals. I would especially like to thank everyone at the Hillside for helping find a bigger purpose in my life and for introducing me to my new friends. If I never get to say it to any of your faces, I think you are all truely amazing. I see firsthand all the hard work and absolute dedication that it takes to make this shelter so special.

I really just want to take this opportunity to say that the entire staff of Hillside is AMAZING. The love and care that they deliver to these beautiful furballs runs so deep and you can see that in everything that is being done on a daily basis.
You really are angels to these animals. There are so many animals in need of GIVING love and attention here, everyone who CAN help, should help. I wish you all the very best in accomplishing your goal of finding good homes for these sweet souls who without hesistation give themselves entirely.

Keep up the excellent work!

A quick note to thank all of the wonderful people at Hillside for taking care of Hilde until she selected us for her new family. A wonderful addition to our household, she fits like a piece of a puzzle we didn't know was missing. For anyone looking to adopt a pet, please go to see the animals. A shelter dog or cat is one of the most loyal and loving animals around. They know hurt and truly appreciate love and a good home.
Thanks again, Hillside!!!!!!

I just wanted to say "thank you" for allowing me to adopt "Honey" on May 9th. She was my Mother's Day gift from my husband! :o)
She's a wonderful dog and so very gentle. She's learned to sleep at the foot end of the bed already and NOT between my husband and I. She's also the ONLY animal I've ever allowed on the furniture, but when she looks at me with those big brown eyes....I can't say no!
Thanks so much!

I just want to let everyone at the shelter know how thankful "Alue" is to you for rescuing her and allowing me to adopt her. (She was the smallest one, she weighed just 7 pounds, of the mini schaunzers that was rescued over Easter weekend). She says she is still scared, but is trying really really hard to remember how to be a dog. Alue wants me to let you know that she has already put on 3-4 pounds and is very happy to be able to be clean and lay around in the sun! Though the vet did some not nice things like rip all the gross hair blocking her ears, she still has yet to make a noise. Her tail is getting used to wagging again, and has shown some interested in squeaky toys. We are well on our way to total recovery! THANK YOU SO much for all you do!

I work in a restaurant...every year I put a "curse cup" up for Lent. If I catch the customers cursing they have to pay me .10 or a quarter for "the Big One" Then I take the money & give it to Hillside. This year my customers were very understanding & we collected $77. I thought maybe you other animal lovers could get an idea from this. I also got my neighbor to adopt a dog, since his just died. He loves her. We got a male dog from Hillside 4 yrs ago. I never wanted a male dog since I always had females. But he is Mommy's boy! And the most handsome guy ever! (he just got a haircut) Keep up the good work & we'll keep up the donations for cursing during Lent
