My family & I adopted Susie (now "Bella") on Mother's Day '09, and I'm happy to report that she has been a perfect fit in our home. She LOVES our children, and is kind to our other animals. She's just a real sweetheart. And we're happy to be her 'forever' family. :o) Thanks for setting us up, Liz. Don't be such a stranger.

Last February 5th I adopted the greatest cat. If you don't believe me you can ask him, he'll tell you the same thing. His name is Douglas. He is the happiest cat wherever he is, I think. He adjusted to my house immediately. His biggest brother is Valentino, also an alumnus of Hillside and a very special fellow himself. Douglas took no time to adjust to the comforts of home. He is always on my desk near the door when I come home. He sleeps on blankets in the living room, the bedroom, etc. He prefers chicken to filet and purrs all of the time. Everyone loves Douglas. He is a big hit at my vet's and among all of my friends. What a splendid cat he is. By the way, he is orange, the best color.

Just popping by to say THANK YOU to all at Hillside for their love and care to all furry babies! We appreciate everything you do for them! I have 3 fur babies from Hillside-Cheerio (Trish's ol side kick-an American Stratfordshire Terrier), Nikki (adopted as "McKenzie"-a Black German Shepard mix), and most recently Elaine (a sheltie/terrier mix)All my gals get along great and love being spoiled rotten! I'd adopt 100 more if I could-so thanks for taking care of the ones I can't bring home ;o)

I thought you might like an update on TJ. Does anyone there still remember him? You would have described him as a "shepherd mix with severe skin problems and a twisted front leg." Today he'd be described as "the best dog ever!" When I first saw TJ's picture on your website and called about him, you told me that he had already been there for two years and that no one wanted him because of his many problems. It broke my heart to think that such a sweet guy could remain unwanted for so long. When we came down to meet TJ, he was in worse shape than I expected. My son tried to talk me out of bringing him home, but I couldn't leave him there. He had virtually no fur from his chin down over his chest and belly. His skin was raw and bleeding in some spots, and he had a growth in one ear. He was so distracted with the itching that his tail barely twitched when you leaned over and kissed his nose. I'll bet you didn't know then that it actually curls up over his back! I'll make what could be a long book into a short story. TJ is allergic to all kinds of things: trees, grasses, pollen, and even dust mites. [Dust mites??? He doesn't stand a chance at my house! :-) TJ takes monthly allergy shots and is doing great! His fur has all grown back; he's playful and loving and has the best good-natured personality ever! Unfortunately, although he's in good health, he's also quite old. He's probably around 12 now, but I like to think he's only three because that means he'll be around a good while longer. Everyone in our house adores him and wants to claim him as their dog, but you can rest assured that he's still my dog and always will be. He'll never be "unwanted" again!

I just wanted to give an update on Douglas for public consumption. His various activities have been reported to Becky and to sylvia. Douglas has settled in very nicely with my household. After a period of isolation he is now free-wheeling and makes the most of it. He sleeps on my pillow at night although this morning he took over poor Valentino's bed. Valentino, I might add, is a Hillside alumnus. Basically, Douglas is a friendly and confident orange cat who is very popular with anyone that meets him. He is outgoing and is very nosy. He has to be involved in everything. I adore him.

Thank you for everything! PS.he is obsessed with my morning coffee. I am wondering if he associates the smell with you guys? My wife and I adopted Emmie many years ago. She was a beautiful dog who gazed at us with total love in her eyes. Today, I looked into those sad beagle browns for the last time. Emmy was laid to rest thirty minutes ago. God, please make sure she has plenty of room to run and thank you and Hillside for allowing us into her life.

Hello! I adopted "Annie", a small terrier mix in October 2008. I cannot believe that we are her 3rd home because she is such a great dog! We renamed her Piper since and she seems to love her name. Thank you so much for such a great dog, Hillside. I recommend your shelter to everyone I know looking for a pet. Thanks again!

Just a quick update on Heidi - a cute speckled beagle of uncertain age! We adopted her (I think) in April 2007. That October she ruptured a disk in her neck (she think's she's a puppy but I think she's a senior!) and was paralyzed. The drive to the urgent care center in Allentown and then the decision to take her to Penn Vet hospital were grueling. It was a horrible night - 3 am, in Philly, handing my very sick beagle over to the vet. She's an emotional girl and just wouldn't eat for them. We struggled to decide if we made the right decision. She made it through the surgery and we had doggy rehab in our living room. I'm glad to say that now, 14 months later, she is good as new. She sometimes gets some pain that the vet thinks is arthritis, but I know the "look" she has when that happens and after some meds, she's back to her old self again. She's the princess here with our doxie and our bulldog/boxer mix, and we are so glad that she "woo woo'd" into our lives from Hillside. Keep up the great work!

hi, happy holidays from the slymock's, frank, annemarie, uncle john kotis and of course rocky, we adopted our rocky form the shelter after a tragic day. we put down our harley, wolf/husky mix, he was 14 and was the most loyal dog. it was that after noon and we all were heart broken, i was browsing the net and found numerous animals. i went to this web site and found another dog, a male husky, i called the shelter and they said that he was available. needing a ride to break the tension my sister and myself took off to potsville from edwardsville. we were about 5 miles away and we were late, i called the shelter, unbelievable how nice and accomidating they were, they waited for us, we got there and met the dog we called about, he snapped at my sister and she refused, now way, not now, then we saw rocky, by himself, unhappy, pacing, panting just caught my eye, after a short walk he caught our hearts. realizing he was severly withdrawn and underweight and in need of a hug, i took him for a short walk and gave him a drink, he sat on my foot as if to say you have to take me with you, whe licked my sisters hand and said i am yours. the staff went above and beyond, unbelievable how accomadating they were, rocky came home with us. he slept the whole way, sighing and relaxing on the back seat. we got him home and he went in one gate and out the other, 55 minutes later, 3 policemen, 8 firemen, numerous neighbors and rocky was back in custody. we took him home and just gave him plenty of tlc, after 5 months now he runs the house with an iron paw, we are at his beck and call, he sleeps on the beds, has to go with you wherever you go, uncle john walks him 4-5 miles twice a day and he cant wait to go, he gained 15 lbs and is nothing short of a chow hound, he steals your plate when you turn, he is the light of our lives, there is no replacing harley, but rocky has his own place in our hearts as well as our hearts. thank you for everything you did, and happy holidays from all of us here in edwardsville.
