We just wanted to thank you ever so much for our beautiful Ezmerelda and loving, mischevious Max who have taken hold of our hearts and mended the tear from the death of our 20-year old calico, Fancy Cat. They are such treasures and love each other as much as we love them and they love us. We also want to commend Hillside and their staff for the wonderful loving care that they give to the animals who are at their shelter. You're first rate!

I would like to thank all of the people involved with the Hillside SPCA! I admire people who care about the welfare of innocent animals. I recently adopted 2 cats from an Animal Control facility in Atlanta. One was extremely sick and suffering horribly. He was basically left in the cage to die. To make a long story short, he spent his first three nights away from the shelter, at my vets. It took him a solid month to recover. He was neutered; therefore, he must have been someone’s pet. He was basically abandoned by his owner! I would love to know what makes people think animals are disposable. I know the people who read this guestbook are surely animal lovers. I want everyone to know that the world is a better place because of people like you! We need more people in this world who respect and care for animals like God intended!

Hi! We adopted Tyler, a mini schnauzer that was part of the 21 dogs rescued from that lady`s house. So far he is doing good, has livened up quite a bit and gets along great with our other animals. He loves to go out in the back yard and just run around, I don`t think he`s been able to do that in years. We still have to get some of the matting off (very hard castlike matting on his legs) and get him to the vet, but we have our fingers crossed. I will report back when he is cleaned up and back to normal :-) Just a big thanks to all at the shelter for everything they did for these guys (and gals)! Tyler was a great Easter Present to our other pups :-)

Hi I heard about your situation about the 2 dozen dogs rescued this weekend. We already have 1 Miniature Schnauzer and My mom and I are trying to convince my dad that my dog Whiskers needs a friend because i was reading your website and saw that you rescued 6 Schnauzer. My mom has had Schnauzer all her life and then i got one when i was 5 and he was a great addition to the family and we are looking for another one. We think they are wonderful dogs and just need some love and attention. We also have experiance with rescues because are dog Whiskers is a rescue who was abused and neglected but now has a loving home.

First, I would like to say thank you to Hillside for all the great work they do. We need more people like them in this world. Second, I am the proud mommy of Sophia!!! I saw her picture on this website and just fell in love with her. Though I have two cats already, I just couldn't resist that cute fuzzy face of her's. I had a feeling that things would be rough at first. My other two, Gracie and Mousey, aren't too keen on having another cat in the house, but we are all working on it. It's all a matter of time. I hope to come home one day and find them all curled up together. She had this terrible open sore on the side of her neck when I got her, scratching at it, from being stressed while at the shelter. From the moment she set foot in this house, she has never scratched at her sore. It healed in a matter of a week and 1/2. She is the most lovable cat I have ever own. She took immediately to my boyfriend and of course he to her. He just adores her. She just loves to stretch out on his belly while he is lying on the couch. And purrs....I have never heard a cat purr as much as she does. I hope that means she is happy!!! I just want to say thank you, thank you, thank you to Helen for being so kind and helping me with the adoption of Sophia. Helen, you can rest assure that Sophia will never go hungry again, will always have a warm place to sleep and will be loved to the end of time. She means the world to us, as our other two do. You guys keep up the wonderful work you do and I'll be back to make another donation. Take care and God Bless.

I just wanted everyone to know that this great website is designed and maintained by a volunteer - Lori Fogg. She has been donating her time for many years now, and was responsible for us having a website - a website which has been resonsible for many "special needs" animals getting homes, as well as others finding their special people. She is not on the staff, doesn't get paid, and isn't even living in Pennsylvania anymore. She moved away but was so dedicated that she continued to do the website for the Hillside SPCA anyway. Thank you to this generous web manager...

I just wanted to let everyone at Hillside, especially Denise, and all the others who were wondering about Clarice and Dill, that they are doing well. They have been with me since January and have come a long way but still are very skiddish at times and not too quick to take to new people. Since they are so attached to one another, it seems that is going to take a bit longer to get them out of their shell. They are really 2 of the nicest, well-behaved dogs and it is a pleasure having them in our family. We are currently working on putting up doggie exercise yard and a fence around our backyard, so Clarice, Dill and their older brother, Dakota, who is also black and looks alot like them, can run around and play together. I will keep you updated on their progress. I also would like to tell everyone at Hillside what a GREAT job you are doing and also tell you how much I like your updated website.

Hello everyone. I want to let all of you know that I have adopted a wonderful SENIOR dog named Clancy. He is a true joy and requires love, love, and more love. Senior pets can be wonderful since they are over the "puppy terrors" of chewing and exploring things, accdents on the carpet and many other little things that puppies do....... Many of my friends wonder why I did this saying I may not have him for a long time. As I tell them, he deserves the best for whatever time he has left and he will certainly get it by being in a loving home. PLEASE, everyone out there, if you have the time and patience ADOPT an older pet. Just imagine being older and having no one to care for you or love you. Imagine that those who once loved you just decided they no longer wanted you around. No living creature should be thrown away to try to fend for itself. Shelter care is is a good beginning to a new life, but very stressful for any animal. The people working at a shelter give their love and attention to many animals, but their care is limited to the hours they can work. Pets need love 24/7. Please consider giving a senior a place in your heart and your home.

You guys are great! Although I have not adopted a dog/puppy from you(Hillside), my family has adopted dogs from another shelter. Our dog, Cocoa, is looking for a friend the play with and I hope we find that friend here. I love the way you set up your site. I hope all the animals there will find a wonderful home.

For those of you who have been monitoring the Hillside web site for a while, you may remember Mandy and Brandy, 2 beagle sisters who are older adults. I was lucky enough to adopt them and in my opinion it was the wisest choice for me. I would like to encourage those in a similar situation to mine to do the same. I am single, work, and have a social life. These factors make it very difficult to raise a puppy and can leave dogs in "single pet families" quite lonely. Though we did have some initial housebreaking issues, Mandy and Brandy have never chewed furniture, or been destructive in any of the usual puppy ways, and there was no work on my part! If I want to go out in the evening I do not have to feel guilty or worry about separation anxiety as they have each other. Of course this doesn't mean I never spend time with them (why would I adopt them if I didn't want to be with them?), but when I do, they are much more comfortable curling up on the couch together than if they were alone. Some people believe that they will not come to love an adult pet as much as a puppy but this is completely false in my opinion. I love my 2 girls just as much as any dog I have ever owned, whether raised from a puppy or not. I have heard others state that it would be too difficult, because they would have less time with and older dog than a puppy. I can't argue with this point, though I will say that the sadness you feel when you adopt an older dog, and he or she passes away, also comes with a feeling you do not get when a dog you purchased or adopted as a puppy (that would normally be snatched up at a shelter) passes away. It is the feeling that this dog was given a 2nd, or sometimes a 1st chance at happiness with me, and I am responsible for the good part of his or her life. If I hadn't adopted him/her, she probably would have spent her last days in the kennel, scared and confused. From experience I know that being able to say I took this poor older dog and she was able to die happy in the arms of someone who loved her very much, gives you a feeling like no other.

Hi everyone! Just a reminder to all the pet-owners that with the spring coming, people need to watch their pets! Don't leave your animals outside unsupervised. With Spring come the "Bunchers" - people who drive around stealing unsupervised domestic pets to sell to test laboratories.

Just wanted to let Trish & Barb know that Bristol says hello. I know it's been awhile since we adopted him, but it's hard to believe the 6 month old puppy we brought home is all grown up! His diabetes is still under control & he's putting on some weight! He's mine & I love him! I only wish I could adopt another, but I don't have the space. Keep up the good work!

Just want to let you know how Holly is doing. When we first brought her home she barked and growled at any man that entered including my husband and I was afraid we would have to bring her back if she didn't let him in the house. But after about a week of him sitting on the floor with her every night when he came home she has begun to love him and has also accepted other men. She has always been great with women and little kids. I watch children during the day and they lay all over her when she is in the house. She loves being outside and we have her trained with the invisible fence so she can run all day. She's turning out to be a great dog and soooooo affectionate. We love her. She is by my side now begging for more attention.

Hello to the loving angels of Hillside SPCA. Now to start, I recall always having a dog in the home since age 5( Jackie) was the name. Over many years, I have had dogs in the home. Approx. 6 yrs ago, I lost my best loving, caring, bonded Doberman. Wife and I of course have out own dogs, she has a 13 yr old Datsun now. Anyway, I was so hurt, first time a grown man has cried over the big loss of my doberman. I had him cremated and he now sits on my bureau alongside my bed. Finally after about 4 years I did not want another doberman. love them, always did. So one day, maybe the girls that worked there, can rememberand my son and I came to the Hillside SPCA, not intending to get another dog for me, well to get to the point , in came a white Lab,named ( GREG). The only thing still with me daily is my heart hurts seeing so many dogs, yes taken care of, but look at them, tails wagging when you appproach, so tearful. Anyway, we took Greg home, now named ( MAX) man, he is so great in the home, loving to all who come, and so great with the grandkids, I hope someone up there remembers him with so many to care for.Well I am known for being sort of cold, hardened, but wew, yes for me, a 68 yr old man, etc, my heart is weakened by all those animals you care for, and hate the too much abuse I see on TV and localy. I truly love you site, great job. Now if you can use a 68 yr old volunteer, who is on disability, limited physically, would be gald to at least find something to do to help. wouldn;t be much, maybe the pain of seeing them all there will get me closer to my inner feelings of how we all together cn make their life easier, showing them someone cares, after all, spell dog backwards and you have ( GOD) thanks

Thank you so much for putting Patch back up on your adoption page. We were heart broken to have to let him go back to the shelter. We all miss him quite a bit. I truely hope he can find a good, gentle home with lots of love and no little kids. Who ever adopts this boy will have an excellent dog. He responds so well to positive reinforcement, and came along so far with his basic obedience. Thank you again for giving him another chance at a good home, I am so sad we were not the one that was the perfect fit.

I read your information on Siberian Huskies. I found it very informative. And very true. My Siberian Husky, well I believe I got truly lucky with her. She is so fantastic and brilliant. I have a cat, which she plays with, she even goes up to the cat and lays down just so the cat will give her a bath! I have 2 small children (aged 2 and 1) and she is very delicate with them. It is as if she knows they are only little. The girls hand feed her, every chance they get, My Kayla will lick the food out of their hand! She practically bites my hand off getting to a doggie bisquit! During the summers we sit on the porch sometimes and she will not allow anyone (but my husband and other familiars)anywhere near the girls, it is like she is their protector. She is so intelligent I can hardly believe it. It took me 3 days to train her to go outside to relieve herself!! She then trained my husband's poodle!!!!! I could hardly believe that one myself. She did in fact redecorate my back yard. That is ok, with us, and we knew it going in, besides if anyone tries to break into our house by going through the back yard....they are likely to break their ankle with all the pot holes. Siberian Huskies make beautiful pets, but definately, people should know what they are getting themselves into. Luckily, I bought a Siberian Huskey book back when buying one was a mere thought. Thank you for such an in depth discussion on this breed. It breaks my heart when people buy them, are dis-satisfied with the animal and then off to the pound they go. It is essential that you know what you are getting yourself into. Statues of these dogs just sit there and look cute, the chances of this dog just sitting there and looking cute is slim. They have so much energy, and are so playful, and I for one, LOVE the howl. It is how she talks to me. Based on how she howls I know what she wants. Without it I would always be guessing!

We were fortunate that we had a lady give us Buster (aka Shadow) as he is a great Lhasa Apso. Before we found this lady, we went to Hill Side every weekend looking for a dog, and the people there are great. They actually let you spend time with the animals, to make sure their personality somewhat matches yours, and always tell you to take time to think on it. I recommended Hill Side and my sister just rescued Molly, a mini springer spaniel from there, and what a wonderful dog Molly is. This is one of the cleanest shelters in our area!!!!
