We adopted a Pug Mix from you (Hillside) in August of 2002. Her name was Cupcake but she didn't seem to repond to that so we changed it to Mandy. Mandy is a very loving and well behaved. She accepted us from the moment we picked her up. We love her more than you can imagine. Thank you for all the work you put into taking care of these animals. I understand it can be a stressful job but when you remember all the cats and dog you help save, it makes it all worth while... I am visiting this site for MR. Corcoran's 8th grade day 3-4 per. 7 class. After reading your sites Biography, i have decided that donating time to the SPCA i a good choice for our volounteer project. We went up on a Sat looking for a special breed, & I wanted a female. Well, my husband fell in love with him. The people their called him Cupid. I said sorry I didn't want him because I only ever had female dogs. So we left that day without a dog. Needless to say, after seeing his face in my head all day & night..we were up there early Sunday morning & brought Max home. A few days later the shelter called & said they had his sister just brought in. I already had 3 dogs so I couldn't take her.I called my girlfriend & begged her to go get Max's sister. She did & Max & Sadie get to visit each other all the time. They even went on vacation this year together. For me not wanting a Male dog, he is my best friend & protector.Dogs from a shelter are the best dogs ever. That's where I got all my dogs. Also, every year for Lent I have a curse cup where I work. For everytime I say a curse, I have to put a dime in it. (I work in a restaurant) and donate it to a charity. I picked Hillsidde as my Charity & this year, with the help of my customers chipping in. We donated $20 to Hillside when they were at Clark's in Paxinos. Next year I will get more customers to put a dime in my cup when they say a curse & donate it to Hillside. maryann Remash <vickyandmax@webtv.net> Atlas, PA USA - Thursday, August 29, 2002 at 17:29:33 (PDT) Back on 12-23-00, we adopted a black lab named Shadow who was 3-4 years old. Chrissy Matt Eric Georgette Jerry & Maggie May Chrissy Fallabel Sugarloaf, Pa USA - Monday, August 19, 2002 at 07:07:35 (PDT) It was a great pleasure to have met you at the Danville SPCA. The work your shelter does is unfortunately badly needed. I felt as if we made a difference that day and thanks to you and your shelter, some laws were changed. Breed specific laws should pertain to the OWNERS not the dogs! Keep up the good work. ALso, lots of great information on this webpage. Sue Williams - A.C.E. Dog Training <soozieq@ptd.net> Sunbury, PA USA - Monday, August 12, 2002 at 15:18:39 (PDT) Thank you for saving Baby, the Pit Bull from certain death at the Danville Animal Shelter. "Breed profiling" is a poor idea and putting an animal to death because the Pennsylvania SPCA wants to partake in that is disgusting. Pit Bulls may be used for fighting and some may be vicious, but they are NOT that way on their own. That is the main thing people have to remember. ANY dog, as the Hillside well knows, can be vicious and can be made that way by humans. Thank you for looking at each animal as an individual and doing your best to place the ones that really should be placed, not just saying, "Well, it's a "whatever" and not taking it, or worse, turning into the killing field like the Danville shelter has become. Hillside, you are appreciated and respected, even if are aren't told that enough. Keep up the wonderful work. Katie Pottsville, PA USA - Sunday, August 11, 2002 at 12:58:07 (PDT) Congrats on saving Baby and for making the Danville shelter rethink their system. Baby looks like a sweetie of a dog. Wendy <3boysmomwendy@comcast.net> Schuylkill Haven, PA USA - Thursday, August 08, 2002 at 20:31:09 (PDT) Your Web-site is very informative and educational for animal welfare issues. Charles J. Carlin <Carlin_C@msn.com> Shermans Dale, PA USA - Thursday, August 01, 2002 at 06:44:20 (PDT) Congratulations to Barb Umlauf on winning the very prestigious Silver Bayonet Award!!!! Barb and everyone at the shelter does a FANTASTIC job with the animals; I wish every shelter in the world were like Hillside. I adopted my wonderful dog Teddy at Hillside in June 1993 and he is a perfect, happy, healthy, SPOILED dog today! Holly <hokuspokus13@hotmail.com> Bethlehem, PA USA - Wednesday, July 24, 2002 at 10:34:26 (PDT) I like to watch the dog's from my BMW on your road! Having a Kidney Transplant prevents me from adopting or going into the shelter;due to my low immune system!! I'll be seeing them from outside the fence. LOVE;Bobby!!!! ROBERT G. DAVIS <sclave@ptd.net> POTTSVILLE, Pa. USA - Thursday, July 18, 2002 at 18:50:08 (PDT) Hi everyone, We adopted Pedro 2 July 6th, he's a sweetheart and has quickly captured our hearts and Bela's, our other fur baby. He's very happy and doing quite well, he's been to the vet for his check-up. Pedro's now on Frontline, Interceptor, he had his rabies shot and he's being neutered today. I can't say enought about him, he gived us kisses, loves treats and plays ball and wrestles with Bela. We have also decided to donate the $30.00 that you are giving us back. The animals need it more then we do. THANK YOU !!!! Chrissy <squishy21@email.com> Gilbertsville, PA USA - Monday, July 15, 2002 at 12:08:16 (PDT) HI!!! I got Tralene last year on June 30. Keep up the great work. Karla Philadelphia, PA USA - Friday, June 21, 2002 at 11:20:32 (PDT) Thanks for all the great updates about Bailey. So glad to hear he's doing well & can't wait to see the picture! Denise <Hillside_pets@hotmail.com> Girardville, PA USA - Saturday, June 08, 2002 at 10:08:47 (PDT) I just wanted to let anyone who is greiving the lose of a pet about a web site that helped me thru Shadows passing. I couldnt eat, sleep...I cried all the time. Still have a hard time dealing with it, BUT I found out about rainbowsbridge.com They have poems, other peoples storys, and a chat. I actually talked with other folks there who helped me as I cried at my keyboard not wanting to let her go. For anyone grieving, you will find comfort here just like I did and still do. PS: I hope I did not break a rule posting that site. I am not affiliated with it, just found comfort there and maybe someone else can find it too. After all they are our *fur babies*---so dedicated, loyal and looking for love as well as giving it! Stacy Stacy Walker <waljs@ptd.net> Tamaqua, PA USA - Friday, June 07, 2002 at 19:21:06 (PDT) Hi Tricia...I just wanted to drop in and tell you yesterday (June 6th) Bailey was neutered. He had to stay over nite at the vets (they tell me this is a must) and how lonely it was all nite and day. Poor Bruno (our St Bernard) didnt have his *buddy*. Anyway, to make up for it, we took them to Heislers for a cheeseburger and Vanilla ice cream tonite (June 7th)! Oh Bailey was in heaven. Of course Bruno is used to the *high life*...lol Bailey is full of kisses. He kisses all the time, almost like thanking us for giving him a permanent home. Ohhh, also: Bailey loves to play ball! He was so proud of his new toys. He drops it right in your lap so you keep playing. He really loves his treats too. We found out he is a very smart dog. I will keep you up to date and send a picture after we fatten him up a bit :) We also decided we will donate the 30$ refund of the neuter cost to the shelter for use for the other pets there. They need it more then we do. Thank you all for your dedication to those pets. You are their voice! Take care, Stacy Stacy and Joe Walker <waljs@ptd.net> Tamaqua, PA USA - Friday, June 07, 2002 at 19:11:03 (PDT) denver isn"t veryreservd any more. he wakes us up every morning, usually around 4am. he is the most talkative cat i 've ever had. we wouldn"t trade him for anything! liz, joe, kimmie, charlie&denver <waccat@webtv.net> pine grove, pa USA - Wednesday, June 05, 2002 at 13:12:04 (PDT) It sounds like Bear, now Bandit, lucked out. I'm glad you posted that message. Tricia <shelter_dogs1@hotmail.com> Sch. Haven, PA USA - Tuesday, June 04, 2002 at 19:38:10 (PDT) Our family dog,Homer, sadly was hit by a car and didn't make it as some dogs get lucky and due. When my mom would have to hang the wash outside in the dark she would let Homer out while she was hanging since we live in the woods. And one night while she was out hanging the wash after the death of Homer it was scary knowing that Homer was there. So she decided that we should get another dog. So we adopted Bear, a husky lab mix, but since there are so many Bears in my neighborhood I changed he's name to Bandit. And he is my best friend, when me and my sister fight, he breaks the fight up.he follows me around the house where ever I go,he even sleeps in my bedroom with me. He is very kind and loving and when he does somrthing frowned upon it is hard to disci[pline him with his one blue and one brown eye. I am so glad that my mom adopted this little love bug. Brit Kenderdine <none> Friedensburg, PA USA - Saturday, June 01, 2002 at 16:53:00 (PDT) I'm so glad to hear that Bailey has found himself such a great home. I only wish all animals had homes like his. He's a lucky boy already. Tricia <shelter_dogs1@hotmail.com> Sch. Haven, PA USA - Thursday, May 30, 2002 at 20:49:07 (PDT) On Saturday, May 26th we adopted Bailey. He is the year old yellow lab/mix. We lost my precious 'baby' Shadow, a black lab Easter Monday :( She had cancer and altho we did everything possible for her...she passed on to the Rainbow Bridge. I couldnt eat, sleep, I cried for days...she was (still is) my precious 'baby'. I loved her so much it was so HARD to let go. Their is a void that can not be filled. But to make a long story short, Shadow was from the SPCA. I said to my husband that we should take a homeless dog...just like we got Shadow! I think they know where they came from and who will love them and respect them. I think they are just so happy they will do anything to please. So Bailey is who we got. We have some issues to work on with him, but considering his past life, it isnt any wonder. I know like Shadow, Bailey will see what a perfect life he is gonna have here with us. Thank You for all your hard work at the Shelter. You are all truly a bunch of dedicated people! God bless you all. These animals need a voice -- and thru you all, they have it! Stacy Stacy and Joe Walker <waljs@ptd.net> Tamaqua, PA USA - Thursday, May 30, 2002 at 15:42:42 (PDT) thanks for denver. joe&liz joe&liz&kimmie <waccat@webtv.net> pine grove, pa USA - Saturday, May 25, 2002 at 09:42:32 (PDT) I think your site is a wonderful tool for promoting responible pet ownership. Keep up the good work and give all those animals a hug for me. Kim kim <kimme@pa.net> pine grove, pa USA - Sunday, May 19, 2002 at 03:55:04 (PDT) I just want to thank you for pointing out my beloved Bailey(Prince Charming) to me the day I came in to adopt a cat. He is absolutely the best cat ever. He goes everywhere my husband and I go and he is so affectionate. For example, he is sitting on my lap right now as I am trying to type this entry. He is such a special cat. I am so thankful I went to your shelter to find him. We don't have any children yet and my husband and I both feel that Bailey and Benny, our other cat, are part of our family. They are our boys. Our other cat is from a farm and they both love and appreciate their home. I don't know what I would do if they weren't there to greet me when I get home from work, to lay in bed with my husband and I (and take up 1/2 the bed leaving the other half for us :)), and to make everyday special. I love my Bailey and Benny so much and I will certainly go to the shelter again whether it would be for another cat or a dog. Thanks so much and keep up the great work. Wish I lived in Pa so that I could volunteer at such a great place. Keep up the good work! Lori Orlando, FL USA - Wednesday, April 03, 2002 at 21:27:06 (PST) i've heard alot of good things about HILLSIDE and saturday me and my husband are going to adopte. you see we adopted a cat 11 years ago from a pet store, she was very ill kitten, and needed some attention and love, so we took her home and to a vet where she had a cold, ear mites, and an infection in her eyes, every day was a gruling day of putting sav in her eyes, drops in her ears, and pills down her throat. but she was a trooper through it all, then when she was 5 years old she had to have a pyrometria done, where she came through it very well. a month before her 11th. birthday we noticed a change in her. not eating as well, and losing weight. so we took her to the vet, and indured bad news. she had colon cancer, that spread through her body. she did not show sighns of pain so we took her back home to rest comfortably. i boild chicken and turkey every day for her because it was easy to digest for her. then within a week she developed a tumor in her mouth. still no sighns of pain she still did her daily activity everyday. and we watched her closely, till one day she had to be givin water with an eye dropper, and didnt eat all day. we knew it was time for her to be put at piece. and she knew it to. you see we have n0o children but she was our child. she was a fur person to us. so on a monday we made that horiable decision to lay her to rest. we drove to the vet which took 1/2 an hour and seemed like hours. we took her in the office in her favorite shaggy kitty can and favorite blanket. i bent and kissed her and said i love you. and my husband did the same. she blinked her eyes at me like its ok mom, its time. the vet closed the door and we waited in the waiting room, and cried. the vet came out and had her curled in her can with her blanket. and we knew she was in peace. we took her and buried her at my parents house, where we may lay flowers for her. we are currently working on a beautiful stone for her. that was the hardest thing my husband and i had to ever do. the next day our house wasnt a home without a fur person to love again. so we went to the human society and adopted to beautiful cats. whome love us and we love them. you see our way of thinking is, our cats death prompted us to save a life dieing a senless death. our house is a home now because of these fur people and we know our cat tanisha is looking down from pet heaven thanking us for saving her own kind. she will always be missed and NEVER replaced. but the new additions to our family will exceed her life. so whome ever is reading this, take it from me and my husband. please adopte, animals give you unconditional love everyday, they dont argue with you and they dont care what you look like. if your ever having a bad day and just wish someone would understand you and hug you. you will find that with an animal. cuz all they want is what you want when your day is going wrong, or your down. and remember they will love you unconditionally. tank you for reading and sharing your time to read our sadness, and joy. Tammy <googies@epix.net> Pine Grove, PA USA - Friday, March 22, 2002 at 09:22:56 (PST) I just dropped off a beautiful black and white pitbull puppy to the shelter. She looks to be about 5 or 6 months old and I found her outside my work. I tryed to find a loving home for her.It was so hard to bring her to the shelter. I got attached while I was searching for a home for her. She got along great with my pitbull, they were always playing.I can't have 2 dogs in my apartment so I had to let her go. She is very affectionate, she loves curling up in a warm lap. I had her for a month and began crate training and teaching her basic commands, she caught on quick. She would make a great family dog,I will really miss her.I would love to know how she works out with her new family so I'm leaving my e-mail address for contact. MRBORLAND@EARTHLINK.NET Michele <mrborland@earthlink.net> PA USA - Wednesday, March 20, 2002 at 17:59:38 (PST) in febuary of 2002 my fiance' and myself visited your shelter. we were both impressed at the variety of breeds both dogs and cats that you shelter had. all the dogs you had were to large or to old for us. while we were just pulling out of your parking lot one of your workers were waving their arms and yelling at us to stop. we turned around and came back to see what she was yelling about. when we got out of the car she informed us that she had a 10 month old black lab puppy that was found in a basement. when she brought the puppy out wrapped in a towel to keep her warm that was all it took. my fiance' fell immediatly in love with her. since that day we have her at home with us and our kids. she is very playful and loveable. everyone that comes in our door she has to run up and greet with kisses. she is a very loveable puppy and we could not have found a better puppy from a breeder. she also enjoys the long walks we take in the woods and she also listens very weel. thank you to everyone at hillside. you have made me my fiance and her kids very happy. thanks again. as soon as i get our film developed of her i will send you one. yours truley paul, gloria, michelle, and carla paul lee <hoyte@ptd.net> shenandoah, pa USA - Friday, March 15, 2002 at 17:14:29 (PST) Your site is wonderful !!!!!!! Why do I have to stay chained up and be left alone so long? They seemed so glad to have me when I came here as a pup. There were so many things we'd do while I was growing up. The master said he'd train me as a companion and freind. The mistress said she'd never fear to be left alone again. The children said they'd feed and brush me every day. They'd play with me and walk me if I would only stay. But now the master "hasn't time." The mistress says I shed. She doesn't want me in the house, not even to be fed. The children never walk with me, they always say, "not now." I wish that I could please them. Won't someone tell me How? All I had, you see, was love. I wish they would explain. Why they said they wanted mine, and left it on a chain? A poem I saw many years ago in my local paper and deceided to cut it out and keep it. It touched my heart so I wanted to share it. I cried when I had to make a decision as to whom I would take home. There are so many wonderful animals- Peanut Butter, Joseph, Trudy (so sweet),the list goes on. Please visit as soon as possible and give an animal a loving home! This web site is such a small portion of the animals in need. How sad to never have a real home only because their previous owners gave up on them. Thank god for the staff members who are giving them a second chance. I have 2 cats and 2 dogs and i am looking for more, cats especially. I have two boxes of canned dog and cat food i am going to donate to the shelter this weekend. If you can please let me know what things to get the animals. My pets have a great, spoiled life, and they are my top priority. I just want to give to the other animals that arent as fortunate as mine are. George <indiana38@hotmail.com> Cressona, PA USA - Tuesday, December 25, 2001 at 10:40:26 (PST) With the holidays here I just wanted to write to thank everyone there for the two gifts I obtained from Hillside this past October. I adopted two dogs now over 2 months ago (previously Jada and Mikey) - now called Kricket and Watson. Watson (Mikey) had a bum right leg - he has seen the vet and now will be going to see a vet orthopedic surgeon. Kricket (Jada) is full of energy but what a love. They both play hard and provide me with so much pleasure. I love them more than I can say. Again thank you! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
