We require that "out-of-county" (those who reside OUTSIDE SCHUYLKILL COUNTY) adopters wishing to adopt a dog provide vet references PRIOR to adoption and that animals adopted outside the Schuylkill County area be spayed/neutered PRIOR to finalization of the adoption.  In addition, all applications must be APPROVED prior to attempting to adopt.

In order to get  a "head start" on the process, Out of County applicants should complete and submit this Adoption Pre-Screen Form.  A staff member from the Hillside SPCA will review it and contact you concerning your application.  You MUST submit all required information and references and receive APPROVAL from the shelter prior to adoption.  Simply submitting this form is not sufficient to adopt.

In addition, you must be over 18 years old to adopt and have a valid Photo Driver's License or other acceptable photo ID.

Of Interest...

"Out-of-County" Adoptions are requested frequently due to animals being seen on our website from visitors located far and wide.  We do encourage Out-of-County (adopters who reside outside Schuylkill County) adoptions for qualified candidates. 

These adoptions do however present some situations that require different handling than local adoptions.  It is more time-consuming and costly to do follow-ups concerning spaying/neutering and general questions with adoptions outside the county. 

In addition, it is more complicated to check on adopted animals when they are farther from the shelter.  Our extensive "pre-adoption" process with adopters from outside the Schuylkill County area is designed to help us make the best decision for a potential "adoptee" when we can't visit the home or adoptive family like we can with local adoptions.

We believe that anyone serious about adopting an animal and providing it a good home understands our concerns and is willing to cooperate with our screening process, both local and out-of-area, because they too have the welfare of their new potential pet in mind.
