Important...

Volunteers should be age 14 or older.  Younger volunteers may be accepted if they can be accompanied by a parent or guardian.  Contact the shelter at (570) 622-7769 for more information and volunteer screening.

FACT...

We need volunteers both on the scene at the shelter AND behind the scenes.  If you aren't sure that you can work directly with the animals or even at the shelter facility itself, why not volunteer to help at fund-raising events?

If you are a good "salesperson", or like to "meet and greet" people, you are exactly the person we are looking for to participate in fund-raising events!

If you are good at planning events or have experience in fundraising for non-profits, we'd love to hear from you!

Home Visit "FOLLOW UP" Volunteers
URGENTLY NEEDED!

There is an urgent need for volunteers to help us do home checks on our adopted dogs, both locally and across the state (and some out-of-state areas, too). Our staff is swamped with work due to our current situation of overcrowding, plus investigating cruelty and neglect cases, making phone check-ups on adoptees, making trips to the vets, etc.  It is very important that home follow-ups are done on adoptions.  We recently had to remove 5 dogs from an adoptive home when, upon follow-up, it was determined that they were living in sub-standard conditions.

We do not have the man power with our staff alone to physically visit every home our animals are adopted into, but YOU CAN HELP!  If you are interested in becoming a "Adoption Follow-up Volunteer" or want more information please email Denise hillside_pets@hotmail.com

This is the perfect opportunity for those of you who want to volunteer to help the animals, but find that volunteering to work at our shelter location in Pottsville isn't a viable option for you.  We need people in all areas of Schuylkill County, across the state of Pennsylvania, and even some out-of-state areas! If you have a few spare hours, a reliable vehicle, are over 18 years of age, have a desire to make the difference in an animal's life, and want to help the Hillside, contact Denise today - WE NEED YOU!!

TAKE THE VOLUNTEER QUIZ!

  • Do you love cats, kittens, puppies and dogs?
  • Do you feel a tug at your heart when you think of all the poor animals that are unwanted, abused or abandoned?
  • Do you have some spare time during the afternoon or evening hours?
  • Do you love animals, but aren't comfortable working directly at the shelter, or have allergies and wish you could help?
  • Do you have transportation to get to the shelter or fundraising events?
  • Are you at least 14 years of age or older? (Or if younger, can you be accompanied by an adult guardian?)

If you answered YES! to 2 or more of the above, you are an EXCELLENT candidate for becoming a volunteer for the Hillside SPCA animal shelter!

AT THE SHELTER

  • Dog and Puppy Needs - Walking, brushing, bathing, petting, holding, loving, a good eye for mites, fleas, etc.
  • Cat and Kitten Needs - Brushing, bathing, petting, holding, loving, a good eye for mites, fleas, etc.

BEHIND THE SCENES

  • We need help in preparing for, setting up and "manning" the tables at mall fund-raisers, craft shows, Community Days and more!
  • We need help in collecting donated items from bins in supermarkets.
  • We could really use someone to get involved in a variety of shelter maintenance projects. Some are big, but most are small.

Remember, if you passed our volunteer quiz (including age requirements), we have a place for you!

BIN COLLECTION PROGRAM VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!!

We are in need of RELIABLE VOLUNTEERS who can collect donations from particular collection bin locations throughout Schuylkill County on a regular basis.  The more areas we have volunteer collectors for, the more locations where we can place cans.

Many area supermarkets allow us to put a bin at the store for collecting donations of food and supplies.  The donations we receive there are extremely important to the animals at the shelter.  We find ourselves in a difficult situation.  There are even more locations where we have been invited to place a bin, but we sometimes have difficulty finding help to collect the donations from where the bins are already...

We are in desperate need of food and supply donations, yet we cannot put a bin in a spot where we aren't sure that we have someone who will faithfully collect the donations from it, or may not be able to keep an existing bin somewhere if it is not emptied and the donations delivered on a regular basis.

If you are interested in participating in the Bin Collection Program, please contact the shelter at (570) 622-7769 to find out the locations of bins where we need more collection activity or for possible new locations where collection volunteers are needed.
